Maybe you have wondered where I’ve been over the last month, or maybe not, but I’m going to tell you all about our month today. ๐
Don’t get to excited, this isn’t a pregnancy announcement.
Don’t be sad, because there were some happenings that I’m pretty excited about. ๐
I didn’t do a goals post for this month, but I’m going to go over each of the most used categories that I have goals for and give you a little update.
Blog:
You may have noticed it has been a little slower around here this month. Why? Because I needed a break, we’ve been busy this month and this is one thing that didn’t need to be done. Hopefully I will be able to post more this coming November. I have lots of ideas that need to be finished.
Doula Business:
I had my first birth that counted towards DONA certification this month. It was beautiful! I hope to be able to share more about it on the business blog in November.
Health and Fitness:
If you hadn’t caught it before in previous goals posts, I have been training for a marathon this summer. My sister came up from VA to run the Grand Rapids Marathon with me and my dad joined us and ran the half marathon. It was so much fun to be able to have that experience with my family. My sister killed it and finished in 4:30. My goal was 5:30 and I came in at 5 hours and a few seconds. Goal accomplished and crushed. ๐ I was so excited about that. Now I can’t wait to plan another….in a year or so. My dad finished the half in 2:10, his goal was 2:30. I’m so thankful that my family and I can bond while getting exercise and being outdoors, whether through biking, running or just playing outside.
Home and Hospitality:
We were blessed by some acquaintances who were getting rid of their outdoor woodstove. Ben spent quite a few weekends getting wood, building a shed and ducting in heat. For around $150 we have a new heat source and we’re hoping we might not need to get gas anymore. Our house is much warmer than what we had it at last year at this time, I’ve actually had to open windows to let chilly air in. ๐ I’m so thankful to the Lord for this blessing and the people that he worked through so we could have a cheaper heat source this fall and winter.
Mothering:
We’re working on being consistent with discipline, education and chores. We seem to do well with everything for a while and then we fall off the wagon for a few weeks. Getting back on track is always a little bit of work. Maybe some day I will just decide we shouldn’t hop off.
What else happened this month?
Well, we’ve been visiting with family. The week before the marathon my sister flew up from VA so we could visit, and the week after (just this past week) the boys, my mom and youngest brother traveled down to VA to visit my siblings who are here and so that I could attend my nephews birth. That’s right, I’m finally an aunt!!!!
How have you spent your month of October? I would love to hear about it!
Brittany at EquippingGodlyWomen.com says
Darn. I thought this post was going to be about you being pregnant. lol. Sounds like you had a great month anyways! I’ve been up to… working and blogging and hanging out with family and not much else right now ๐

I would love to see what a day in your life looks like, Brittany. How do you balance home, boys, and blogging?

Sounds like you had a busy, but fun month! That’s exciting about your marathon. I’m running my first half with my dad and brother (they have both just finished marathons this past month) this November. It’s really nice to be able to run races with family. That’s also really cool that you are becoming a doula. What made you go into that? I’m curious how much work goes into becoming one.
Rebekah says
Have fun in your half!
You can read a little about why I became a doula I have to attend a certain number of births, have good reports from doctors, nurses and mommas, read books, write essays and have certain amounts of education hours. I love being able to support women during these big moments of life.

Congrats on your first birth counting towards your certification! That is SO amazing!
Rebekah says
Thanks, I’m super excited about it!!

Sounds like a lovely fall month ๐ So cool going the Doula stuff! My mom always wanted to be a doula, haha. I think it sounds really neat and I know I want doulas and midwives when I have a baby ^^
I love your outdoor woodstove – if you guys have maple trees you should consider doing maple syrup for a project! I say this because it would be cool to make syrup outside with a stove instead of how my family did it with a brick fireplace out in the lawn, hehe
Rebekah says
Why didn’t your mom pursue training?
Maple syrup would be fun, we do have a couple of maple trees in our woods, but I’m not sure if we have enough to make syrup worth it….now I want to go tell me husband to go count our trees though. ๐
Heather says
Wow you have been busy ๐

Way to go on the marathon! I think it’s so awesome that your family is doing it together! I’ve blogged more in October than normal and I’m ready for a little less in November! ๐

Congrats on the first birth to count toward certification! That’s awesome!
We do the same thing with our parenting — hopping on and off the wagon. Right now we’re on, and I’m praying we’ll have the strength and discipline OURSELVES to be able to stay on the wagon for good this time!
Rebekah says
Maybe we can hold each other accountable, Tawni.

Yes!

What a great time for your marathon!! My sister runs her first half tomorrow. The poor girl broke out in shingles last week and has been keeping up with her training in the midst of that! I found you through Christian Women Blogs on Facebook….looking forward to checking out your site! God bless! http://www.sarahefrazer.com
Rebekah says
Oh my goodness!! I hope your sister has a quick recovery from both the shingles and the half.
Thanks for stopping by, Sarah!

Good job on the marathon! I used to run and did several halfs before my hips needed replacing. I miss it. I always wanted to do a full at least once.
