I like alliteration, just in case you didn’t notice. ๐
Last week was rather busy, hence the lack of the post that I said was going to come every week. Ben had class in Chicago for work and the boys and I went with him. We also took Ben’s sister along with us to help with the boys. You will not meet her in any of these pictures because she insisted that she didn’t need to be in any of them.
The first couple of days we (Cassie and I, Seth-boy and Baby Cameron) didn’t do much other than hang out and chill, We did try to get out every day and go to the park to run off some energy though.
We walked around a couple of the local malls and waited for Ben to get out of class. On Sat. we all went to the Brookfield Zoo. BEST ZOO EVER!! We were really excited about the dolphin show, although Seth was really disappointed that the lions weren’t going to join in on the water action. I wish I could have gotten a picture of his face, it was so cute. “Where are the lions?”
We also went to the Shedd Aquarium on Sunday before heading home, but none of us were really that thrilled with it, fish are fish. Seth liked seeing more dolphins and the sharks and beluga whale, but overall I don’t think it was worth the price.
And finally…
Three Fun Things to Teach Your Toddler
1. Introduce them to escalators. We live in a small town of 1900 and we hardly ever go anywhere there are escalators. This past week in Chicago we walked around some malls and Seth-boy took his first ever escalator ride. It was so much fun to watch his expressions change as he realized what was happening. He wasn’t so sure at first and needed help to keep his balance but after a couple of times he was a pro at getting on and off.
2. Help them conquer the slide. Seth is very much afraid of heights and things he can’t control, much like his momma, speed going down the slide is something that is very scary for him. It took a few minutes of watching me go down the slide, which was not fun at all, before he would even attempt to come to the top, and then I had to carry him. We’re still working on getting him to go down himself, but at least he now says “wee” on the way down ๐
3. Teach them to skip. This is so fun, you’ll both be laughing five seconds in. ๐ One day a few weeks ago Ben and I took the boys to the park. Seth isn’t much for swinging and we hadn’t worked on slides yet, so we ended up walking along the river looking for fish. Seth started to get whiny on the way back, so in an effort to divert him, I decided it was time Seth learned how to skip. He does more of a hop-run-walk thing, but he is starting to get the hang of it. It was very useful last weekend in Chicago when he got tired of walking around the mall. Ben took Cameron and Seth and I skipped away. We got quite a few looks, but we were having fun and that is something Seth will always remember.ย ๐
What is something that you had fun teaching your toddler? What do you remember your mother teaching you as a toddler, fun or otherwise?
Growing Up Madison says
I remember when Madison first came into contact with the escalator at the mall. She wanted to jump back on the wrong way of course. She’s a huge fan of the slides as well but she doesn’t like the aquarium. Something about the water and the fishes scare her. Hope you’re having a great Saturday!

I just love it when Seth gets so excited about things. It make step back and think on how I want him to view life and that is with a love of God, family and fun. Life is made to be enjoyed and having a toddler to help through these new, fun things helps me to remember that.

Your babies are about the same age as mine. I think there are things we can teach them every day. Although, I usually miss a lot of the opportunities. They grow so fast. Glad you enjoyed Chicago!

I agree whole heartedly, there are things that we can be teaching our children every day. These three are just some of the fun ones we have been working on lately. :-)Do you have boys, girls or both?

I love how toddlers are so willing and want to help! From setting the table, to putting away silverware, to sorting socks.

I know!! It shows how they are growing into such little ladies and gentlemen. Seth surprises me sometimes with the things he offers to help with. The other day he wanted to help put the dishes away. ๐

My little ones love escalators. There is one store we went to outside where they spent 30 minutes going up and down. What fun!!

Aww! We haven’t been many places that have escalators since our trip last year, but whenever we do Seth gets excited. It will be a fun thing to show Cameron now that he is walking. ๐
