At my first appointment with my OB/GYN, after Seth’s birth, one of the first things we talked about was the uterine septum that had been found during my c-section. We agreed that I would come in later for some ultrasounds to see how big the septum was, and that for the best chance for a VBAC I should wait until Seth was 18 months to get pregnant again.
In January of 2012 I had the ultrasounds done. I told myself going in that I was expecting to need surgery to remove the septum, however when the call came that I would need surgery, I was shocked. I think I told myself that I was prepared for that decision, but in the very back of my mind thinking that since I thought I was ready, I wouldn’t really need to have it done. Does that make sense?
I was sent to a fertility specialist who had dealt with this issue before. He explained that with the type of septum I had the risks of miscarriage increased quite a bit, he was very shocked that I hadn’t had a miscarriage with Seth. My little boy must be destined for greatness! ๐
I know several people who have had miscarriages, and it is not something I would ever want to happen to me. I believe that life begins at conception and felt that if there was something I could do to prevent loss of life then I should do it. Ben and I decided that surgery was the very best option for us. There were risks either way, but to us the benefits outweighed the risks.
I seen the fertility specialist the end of February and my hysteroscopy was scheduled for the 14th of March. This was definitely scheduled by God as I got in for my first appointment off the cancellation list and I had also just started my cycle that day that I got in. A hysteroscopy is only scheduled on certain cycle days. God’s timing is perfect! In the end I had my surgery a week or two before my scheduled first appointment.
The surgery went well and recovery from that took a couple of weeks. The most uncomfortable part of the whole thing was the balloon that had to stay in the uterus for a week. Not fun!
Here is more information about a uterine septum and this goes more in depth on what a hysteroscopy is.
Do you have a story of God’s perfect timing? I would love hear it!

I do believe all children are gifts. I was pretty young when I had my daughter, God sent her my way to slow me down from my too crazy teen years. Some gifts come because we pray for them, some because God knows we need each other, all gifts in their own right. I am thankful you are recovering well and able to share so much with others ๐

I always dreamed of having a vaginal birth, but after my emergency c-section with number one, those dreams were shattered. 2 weeks after I had my son, my incision herniated. When I got pregnant the second time around, the doc says there was way I could do a VBAC. I just had to accept it, and move on! In the end, healthy children is all we can hope for!
Rebekah says
Oh my!! I’m glad you are okay after such serious complications! Yes, healthy children is what matters in the end.
