DIY Chore Cards for Preschoolers and Toddlers
One of my goals for the month of January was to make Seth some chore cards to help us get in a routine and to make sure that I remember to have Seth help around the house. I find that I usually just like to do things myself because it is easier and faster, but I also want my littles to know that I need their help around the house. I decided that we would use cards as Seth really likes his flashcards for school. Today I wanted to share these DIY chore cards for preschoolers and toddlers with you.
Seth had fun helping me make these chore cards. I actually made making them a part of school one day. He got to practice writing and copy-work. He also illustrated some of the cards.

What You Need for these Chore Cards for Toddlers
- blank notecards
- 2 markers of different colors
- clear contact paper
I picked ten “chores” for Seth. Some are daily habits, like getting dressed or brushing teeth, and others are actual jobs that he does- sweeping and matching the shoes. Five of them I picked to be daily chores {part of our every morning routine} and the other five are jobs that I have him do throughout the week, one or two per day.
- Write the chore on the top of the card.
- Draw a picture to illustrate the chore or let your preschooler illustrate the card.
- Have your preschooler copy out the name of the chore under the one you did. I didn’t draw guidelines but that might be helpful for younger littles. For the daily chores/routine cards we used blue and then for the extra “momma’s decision” cards we used orange.
- Use the contact paper to laminate the chore cards. I found it easiest to cut off a big piece, remove the paper, lay down with the non-sticky side down arrange all the cards on the sticky side and then cut another piece the same size the sandwich the cards together. Then you just cut between the cards and they are finished! π
Do you have a chore list for you toddler or preschooler? What about allowance or paying for certain jobs? If you do pay for extra harder jobs, which ones are they?

GENIUS. I love this and am TOTALLY going to try this with my 6 year old! We have a chore chart, but we forget to check off the boxes all of the time, even when he does the chores (my fault). π This is so much more fun than checking a box! Thank you!

You’re welcome Tawni! I’m hoping to add some more this month that are paying chores. We’ll see what I can come up with. π

Oh, we used to have a chore chart, but it got boring after a while. With the cards Seth feels like he has more control over what he does when. π

What a great idea. Your son will take ownership of these chores since he helped make the cards!
Rebekah says
Thanks! That is my hope! And that he would learn responsibility and faithfulness.
