Affirmations for Christian Moms
Affirmations have become a big thing recently, with proponents encouraging us to speak them over our children in the morning and before bed, over ourselves during labor, when we are struggling through hard times, etc. and they can help. But sometime I wonder about the message we are giving ourselves when we tell ourselves that “I am strong”, “I’ve got this”, and others. Much like Rachel Hollis’s “Girl, Wash Your Face” {read my friend Sarah’s awesome response to that book here} I wonder if in some of these self-help phrases we are leaving God out of things and focusing TOO much on self. Below you will find affirmations for Christian moms, truth that points us to the truth, while also encouraging us to never give up.

10 Biblical Affirmations for Christian Moms
I have the power of Christ in me. {Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 12:9}
With His power at work in us, we are able to be content, to minister to our family, to love others well, and to do whatever good purposes He has ordained for us to do.
When I am weak, HE is strong. {2 Corinthians 12:9-10}
We don’t have to do this all on our own, mommas! The Father knows our weaknesses, and promises that He will be with us in our work.
I have the Holy Spirit in me and he imparts patience, joy, and peace. {Galatians 5:22}
When we are feeling like we just can’t give any more, we need to remember that we have the Holy Spirit with us. And part of his work in our lives is to help us grow in the fruits of the spirit. This means those times when the toddler is melting down in the grocery store and we feel like we are about to explode are perfect training opportunities for us to allow the Holy Spirit to do His work and help us ABIDE and THRIVE.
My hope is in Christ, not naptime. {1 Corinthians 15:19-21}
Even though naptime can save our days sometimes, it isn’t what saves us in the end. And on those days when naptime seems super important and all that we need, we MUST remember that naptime doesn’t save our souls. {Please don’t think I mean naptime isn’t needed, or that we aren’t physical people who need rest, we do.}
My joy is in God, not chocolate, coffee, or wine. {Romans 15:13}
Similar to having our hope in Christ, our joy comes from the Lord, the one who created us, the maker of heaven and earth. Chocolate, coffee, and wine, may relax us, but we shouldn’t be drawing our comfort or joy from them. I know for myself, I have been finding too much comfort in chocolate and rushing straight to the cupboard to grab some in a stressful situation when I should really be bringing the situation to God in prayer. Our littles may stress us at times. They may give us a headache with crying. They may bring us to tears, but our joy is not found in them. It is only found in the Father.
I speak calmly and gently when angry. {Proverbs 15:1}
A soft word turns away wrath, and it can also tamper a rough situation rather than fan the flames into a bigger fire. This one has seriously been a big one for me. I’ve been using it often throughout the day and it often comes back to me just as I’m raising my voice to yell at someone.
My family is my ministry. {Ephesians 2:10}
Keeping this in mind for the days when I feel like I am not really accomplishing much at home, it just seems like cooking, laundry, schooling, cooking, scrubbing, etc. My family is my ministry. The things I do at home are important and needed. I can show my children the love of Christ. I can love my husband and help to build him up. I can help to mold these little hearts into ones that seek the Lord and want to do His will. These deeds that I am doing are part of the works that God has planned for me, and therefore my ministry.
My children are a gift and a blessing. {Psalm 127:3}
My children do not always seem like a gift…but they are. I know women who have suffered through many miscarriages, stillbirths, and infertility. The fact that I have children in my house is a gift. My children are a blessing given to me from God. They help me to grow in my walk with Christ, they show me areas of weakness, they encourage me to know Him more.
Click To TweetI am raising the next generation of soldiers for Christ. {2 Timothy 1:5}
We must prepare our children to stand up courageously for their faith and values. We must give them the armor that they will need to use daily to fight against the devil and his schemes. Like Lois and Eunice we must seek to raise our children so that they have a sincere faith, one that stands.
I know the One who has the answer to my parenting questions. {James 1:5-8}
In James we are told that we have access to the Father’s wisdom. All we have to do is ask and believe. Those issues that keep popping up, God’s got that. Usually I start looking for parenting books, blogs, and articles. What I should be doing more often is looking to Scripture and asking God to guide me as I seek to disciple my children.
How have these Biblical affirmations changed my mothering?
I’ve been trying to use these affirmations right away in the morning and then as situations arise where I am losing my cool, or my sanity. I feel like they have helped with my yelling, they have focused my heart and thoughts in the right direction when it is most needed. I’m sure as time goes on, I will find even more positive changes from using these affirmations.
What we speak has direct influence over our actions and our thoughts, I hope that these affirmations can help make positive changes in your mothering just like they have in mine. And, if you have any other Biblical affirmations for moms, I would love to hear them!!
