I don’t know about you momma, but I have found that my appetite for learning has increased since I had children. There are a lot of things that I didn’t care about in high school that I now can’t learn enough about. Food and how it works in the body, fitness, natural remedies for sicknesses, child development, the history of our country, edible plants to forage, etc. I have lists of things that I want to learn more about and it seems like every time I start reading a book about one topic it brings up another topic that I have to then add to my list, somedays I feel like I am going back to school. Have you ever felt that way? Do you have a list of so many thing that you want to learn about that you don’t even know where to start?
Guess what? I have the perfect thing for you. A giveaway!!! {This giveaway is taking place over on Instagram, so if you aren’t following me there head on over! The giveaway starts Friday August 19th and ends Wednesday August 31 at midnight. The rules will be shared on IG on Friday so you can enter there. :-)}
I have teamed up with two awesome ladies to bring you three of our favorite natural family health books. These books cover pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding, and infants all the way to teenagers. These three books can help get you started in learning about real food, traditional remedies, healthy pregnancy, baby led weaning, vaccinations, and more. I have made so many notes in and about the two books that I have read that we are offering and I know that you will love them!
I am giving away a copy of Elizabeth Lipski, P.h.D., C.N.N’s book Digestive Wellness for Children: How to Strengthen the Immune System & Prevent Disease Through Healthy Digestion. As a momma of a child who struggled with leaky gut at the age of 3 I found this book a wealth of information. I didn’t realize that my son’s food sensitivities were harming his immune system {did you know that 70% of the immune system is in the gut?} and while his reactions may have seemed mild to some if he was allowed to eat the things he was reacting to without a change in diet could have led to more serious health problems later on in his life. While leaky gut in itself is a big issue this book covers so much more than just that. There are links between the immune system/digestion and autism, eczema, acne, hyperactivity, ear aches, and more. This book provides information on several childhood issues and explains how digestion could be causing some of them, while also giving remedies and solutions.

The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care by Sally Fallon and Thomas S. Cowan M.D.
I feel this book is like the all-in-one book of natural answers to pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care. When I first read this book right after finding out I was pregnant with my first child, I kept saying, “Oh that make sense”, and “Ah-ha! I get it now!”. I loved that the main focus of the book is nutrition, and how to prepare your body through all the stages to have the optimal health for your baby and self. They base their diet off of Dr. Weston A. Price’s findings, with lots of research and explanations for all they recommend to do.
I do give this book a lot of credit for aiding in my very successful pregnancy, labor, and help with my first born. If I ever had a question on my mind during all the “firsts” of pregnancy, labor, and taking care of a newborn, this book did really good on answering them. I also was very impressed that they went over all the big interventions that hospitals do and went through the necessary and negative ones to avoid. They talk about everything from ultrasounds, to vaccines, and even the importance of child spacing. This book is definitely the first I recommend to all my friends and family when I hear they are thinking about getting pregnant.
Justin and Bree strive for their family to enjoy a natural and simple lifestyle. They enjoy researching and finding tricks and trades to make that possible. They run a natural family lifestyle blog over at familyaswego.com where they love growing their community and sharing what they discover as their family grows. You can find real food recipes, natural remedies, tips to raising kids, natural pregnancy help, and ride alongside our family adventures.
How about it, momma? Want to dust off your pencil and a notebook and start learning again? Be sure to enter the giveaway on Friday!!

I agree – my desire to learn has grown so much since having kids, and one of the things I’ve been obsessed with learning more about is nutrition. I’m so excited for these giveaways! Thanks to all three of you for doing this!

Hi Melissa, nutrition is such a fascinating subject. Sometimes it can be very devisive- paleo or not, gluten free or not, eat whatever cause calories don’t matter if you are eating real food, etc. I think each person needs to figure out how their body best works. For me that is to eat mostly grain free and completely dairy free. For my boys it may be different…I love that these books provide a basis for what children need and then you can go from there. 🙂

Awesome! I love all the Nourishing Traditions books! Such important information!

This is excellent. I am a fan of Weston A Price myself and firmly believe that most of our immunity is found in the gut. Sadly, the majority of the population hasn’t caught up to this yet. I can’t wait til this info stops being fringe. People either ignore you, make fun of you, or violently oppose you hearing information that they don’t agree with. 🙁

Yes!! I hope you were able to enter the giveaway, Rachel! Have you read any of these books? I know I was so excited when the Baby and Childcare book came out last year, I asked for it for Mother’s Day. 🙂
