This week has not gone as planned, partly due to sick babies and partly due to the weather we have been having. I don’t mind the winter. I like the snow and the cold isn’t so bad. What I don’t like is getting stuck.
Not bragging but I’m a pretty good driver. I’ve only gotten pulled over twice, once for a Chinese fire drill (that’s a story to have. ๐ ) and the other time for a brake light being out. I’ve been driving in the snow for a while now, but this winter we have gotten record amounts of snowfall and my car doesn’t like that.
Every time we get in the car Seth says, “Come on car.” “Mom, don’t get stuck.” “Mom, I don’t like getting stuck.”
Yes Seth, I know, I don’t like getting stuck either.
I also don’t like getting stuck in life. And without goals that is where I was. I have read books before about setting goals and routines but this book has been the best that I have read.
Using the SMART way of setting goals, making them Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time bound has increased the goals that I meet and enables me to set more. You can read about the goals that I had set for this month here. For this coming month of February I would like to add more to what I already have in these areas: Blogging, Finances, Health and Fitness, Home and Hospitality, Mothering and Marriage.
Goals for February 2014
Blogging:
- make Facebook blog page public, share with friends and have at least fifty likes by the end of the month
- post at least ten times, twelve would be preferred but if I only get to ten that is fine
- interact more with other bloggers and learn more about using social media
Finances:
- save $200 a week, this will be tough, but my husband and I think it is doable. (In Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, Crystal talks about shooting for the stars sometimes, this is our shooting for the stars goal)
Health and Fitness:
- run two times a week, my sister and I have committed to running a marathon together in October so this is a must
- do two HIIT workouts a week
- practice yoga two times a week
- read two books on any subject related to health and fitness
Home and Hospitality:
- dishes done by eight thirty
- find a chore system for Seth
- make bed every morning
- couch needs to be laundry free every night
Mothering:
- read one book related to mothering or child developement
Marriage:
- complete The Art of Marriage (this one is kinda already completed since we are signed up to participate, but I wanted to mention it anyways.)
Those are my goals for February 2014. Do you have any specific goals for this month? Do you have any unusual tips that may help us save money?
Natalie says
Your goals touch on all areas and sound doable, definitely. My goals are business-related, involving not only vineyard but creating crochet patterns to be published. I am setting up a group on meetup.com to have a fun, artsy adventure once a month.
Rebekah says
Wow! I wish you luck on being published!

I’m just now peeking out after being overwhelmed with a January blog challenge. I’ll have to think about my goals. Looks like you made some good ones. Wishing you luck in completing them!
Rebekah says
Someday I hope to complete a challenge like that. ๐ Congratulations on completing it!
Amber says
Your goals sound great and very attainable! You are a great mama! Goals are so important to have, otherwise we don’t end up getting far in life. I’m a highly motivated person normally and love to set and accomplish goals but this pregnancy I have had to work extra hard on motivation because for some reason I haven’t been as interested in attaining goals as I normally am. Maybe because I’m so exhausted all the time!?!?! =) I’m waiting for my “nesting” to start kicking in so I can get into high motivation mode and get things done again! Lol. Hopefully these next two months it will kick in!!
Rebekah says
These two months are going to go way faster than you think! ๐ You need to give yourself grace right now, the fatigue at the end of a pregnancy is hard to deal with.
Samantha says
Ok, I’m convicted! I have been mulling over Crystal Paine’s goal lists that she sends out as part of her emails thinking I should be more deliberate. By listing them out, they are clear but also I can look back and see how much I’ve accomplished! You have some great goals! How do you find the time to workout? I DO mean find because I know you’re a busy Momma!
Rebekah says
I have to make the time. When I run I go on the weekends when my hubby is home and now that it is staying light later I will be able to go after he gets home from work. I like HIIT workouts because they usually only take 10-15minutes and you get a great workout. Yoga I find relaxing. ๐ Most days I don’t want to do it but I always feel so much better afterwards. ๐
creativekkids says
Great goals! My dishes are still dirty–and they might be until tomorrow. I want to go to bed at 10 and wake up at 5 as I’m exhausted!
Rebekah says
I can’t imagine getting up at 5!!! ๐
Tanya @ Mom's Small Victories says
Great goals, I especially like that you want to save $200/week. It will feel great to achieve that goal. Congrats on training for a marathon. I love to read and am currently reading The Good Mother Myth, its a collection of essays from moms debunking what that picture perfect good mother is. It is pretty interesting and an easy read. Another good one I read was Scream-Free Parenting. Let me know what you decide to read, I always love discussing good books!
Rebekah says
I just put the Good Mother Myth on my list. ๐ Thanks for the suggestion! I have a whole stack of library books I have to finish first, they all same in at once which is really crazy. ๐
Heather says
Good luck on your goals! sheesh if you can save that much I will be impressed! I just want to get out of debt. I’d also be interested in what you will read.
Rebekah says
The first week was pretty easy, this week it has been a little harder, hopefully it will even out.
Kim @ WampumHome says
I do love how you break down the goals and the book sounds wonderful. May have to go on my goal list.. ‘read a book about goals’ ! I’ve been working on small daily changes and January in general got me in ‘stuck’ mode.. time to move on!! February offers up an extra two plus minutes a day of daylight and I am planning on reveling in that natural energy.
Rebekah says
Don’t you just love all of this extra light? I even hear birds singing every once in a while, spring IS coming!
mootable says
Those are some great and fully attainable goals! I think I could adapt a few to my own life! And you’ve put it out there so I think they are that much more attainable for it! Good luck!
Rebekah says
Thank you! I’m already finding motivation from announcing to the world my goals. ๐ Thanks for visiting!
Angi says
Great goals for this month. Good luck!
Rebekah says
Thank you Angi!
uepianogirl says
I like your goals! As far as saving money, have you tried things like cutting your cable or switching cell phone plans? We did both of those and were able to save quite a bit…
Rebekah says
We don’t have cable and we use Straight Talk, I don’t think we can reduce what we are using there. I do need to call and price car insurance and we are having an electrical audit done soon. Hopefully we’ll be able to and more stuff to cut. ๐
Alicia says
I love your new blog look sweetie! It looks amazing. Let’s see, You have inspired me to make me some goals for February. I admit that I haven’t did any. I kinda wonder around aimlessly..ha! I need to do better. I know that I have been doing major research with doing new things with my blog. I hope that I am able to do these things shortly. I know with fitness I am trying to stay faithful with doing a Paleo diet and exercising more. Thank you so much for sharing your goals!
Rebekah says
Thank you! I’m not sold on it yet, it is definitely an improvement over the last theme. ๐
kristentoneycampbell says
I’m kind of in a one-day-at-a-time mode right now LOL So I don’t even know what to say about February. Except that I can’t believe it’s already here!
Rebekah says
I know! Happy February! ๐
Mercedes R. Donis says
That book sounds like a must-read! It’s going on my list. Thanks for sharing ๐
Rebekah says
Thanks for coming by! ๐ I highly recommend Say Goodbye to Survival Mode. Crystal didn’t have to survive twins, but she has lots of great tips in there!
Tammy says
Wonderful goals. Looks like a list that is very attainable. Thanks for sharing.
