{Today I’m super excited to have a recipe for these cute little turkeys featured over at The Road to Domestication. Kristen has put together a series called The Tastiest Thanksgiving Ever. She has lots of yummy sounding recipes over there to help make your Thanksgiving special, so head over there and check it out!! She also has lots of posts on organization and easy dinner ideas. Thanks Kristen for putting this together!}
Do you have a favorite fall or Thanksgiving recipe? One that automatically takes you back to Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s or gathering around a bonfire? Here is a recipe that brings back joy filled autumns of my childhood.
This recipe is really fun to make with your children if you are up for sticky little hands. π EveryΒ Thanksgiving that I remember my mom would always gather us kids together and we would make this turkey treat. It’s one of my favorite Thanksgiving memories.
Kristen made an adorable recipe printable- click here to print it off. The original recipe is not very allergy friendly, so to make these edible at our house I will tell you what we subbed in.
Thinking about fall and making these cute little turkeys. Perfect for fall celebrations or a Thanksgiving dessert! #autumn #glutenfree #toddlerapproved Click To TweetIf you need the recipe to be Gluten Free:Β make sure you use Gluten Free Rice Krispies. The only brand that I know of that has a Gluten Free option is Rice Krispie. Rice Kripies no longer makes a certified gluten free cereal, you should be able to have similar results with this brand– I have not personally tested it though.
Also you will need to use a gluten free chocolate vanilla cookie. Our favorite brand is Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Joe-Joe’s
If you need the recipe to be Dairy Free:Β sub in coconut oil for the butter. I used refined coconut oil so that you don’t have the coconut taste.
For corn free marshmallows we love, love. love Trader Joe’s marshmallows. You probably won’t even notice a difference between these marshmallows and the high fructose corn syrup ones.
Also if you don’t want to buy the container of chocolate frosting here is a version that we used. I also use this recipe any other time that we need chocolate frosting.
Easy Chocolate Frosting
1/2 cup coconut cream (the thick stuff at the top of a full fat can of coconut milk, if you put the can in the fridge over night it will be easier to scoop)
3/4 cup dairy free chocolate chips. I used Ghiradelli semi sweet chips. Enjoy Life is another good brand if you need it to be soy free.
1/2 t vanilla.
Simply melt these ingredients and mix together over low heat. Pour into a bowl and refrigerate for a couple hours until thick. If you want an easy ganache this works well to, just don’t refrigerate and pour over your recipe.
I hope you have fun making these Turkeys with your little ones!!
Do you have any favorite Autumn orΒ Thanksgiving food memories? I would love to hear the story and the recipe!

If you get a chance, for easier clean up have everyone butter their hands first. π

creativekkids says
I love these! I’ve made them without the Rice Krispies, but never with. I’ll have to ask my daughter if she wants to do these for her birthday!
Rebekah says
Tammy, If you don’t use rice krispies, what do you use?
creativekkids says
They used one cookie for the bottom, one for the back, and then I think something like a big gumdrop–it’s been so long, but it was all candy stuck on with frosting.
Rebekah says
Oh yes, there is a sugar high after these for sure!
Jill @ Called To Be A Mom says
Those look so yummy! I like that you give options to be dairy free and gluten free!
Rebekah says
We have allergies to both in our house, so I thought it would be nice to let people know how to “fix” them. π

Those are SO cute! My son would love these. He would lose motivation to help about 1/4 way through, but he would LOVE eating these. Maybe we can make on Thanks-Hanukkah!
Rebekah says
Seth wasn’t even interested in helping, even though I asked him several times, he did want to eat the frosting and the finished product though. :+)

You’ll probably get much nicer pictures too. π

They look really nice. And I like the way you gave healthy options as well (gluten free, dairy free). I have started buying gluten free stuff at my fave shop when I see it, but I think it will still make me fat whether they are gluten free cookies or not!
