We love nut butter at our house. It is eaten on pancakes, on toast, on apples and bananas, and by the spoonful. I usually make my own nut butter because it is a LOT cheaper than buying it premade. If you have never made your own nut butter you can find a simple tutorial here.
I have never tasted Nutella but this two ingredient chocolate nut butter tastes how I imagine Nutella to taste. Nutty, chocolatey, smooth. Perfect for those moments that busy mommas need a break.
Okay, so I mentioned that you only need two ingredients for this homemade chocolate nut butter, right? All you need are Cashews (or any other nut or seed you want, I’ve also made it with a mixture of sunflower seeds, coconut flakes and cashews) and Chocolate Chips.
When we made it Seth and Cameron were my taste testers. Helping me to get the perfect amount of chocolatey-ness. {I really like making up words to describe food. :-)} Then we had some friends over and they said the nut and chocolate combination was perfect, which makes this recipe a winner!!
Here is how you make this amazing chocolate spread {Or dessert. I do eat it as a dessert sometimes.}:
Two Ingredient Chocolate Nut Butter
4 cups raw cashews, roasted for 10-15 minutes at 400. {Watch these carefully, and stir often, so they don’t burn.}
1 cup chocolate chips-if you need dairy free chocolate chips I really like Costco’s brand of chocolate chips. If you are following Trim Healthy Mama you will want to use these sugar-free chocolate chips , one cup full of chopped Skinny Chocolate, or one cup of chopped dark chocolate- either 85% or 90% would work.
Place your hot, roasted cashews into a food processor that has been outfitted with an S blade. Process the cashews until a flour or meal forms. Then add in the chocolate chips. The chocolate chips will melt as the nut butter is finishing processing. Process until smooth and creamy or the texture you desire.
I have found if you process the nut butter as soon as possible after the nuts come out of the oven, the smoother your nut butter will be.
Have you made your own nut butter before? What do you spread Nutella on? How will you use this awesome Homemade Chocolate Nut Butter?

I’m not a huge fan of Nutella, but this sounds delicious! I like cashews way better than hazelnuts anyway! Yum! And so easy! I see this in my near future. 🙂

This looks delicious! I want to begin making our own butter spread – can you use something other than cashews? Or does that work best with the chocolate?
Rebekah says
Hi Danielle,
You can definitely use any other seed or nut that you want. My favorite combination for the Chocolate Nut Butter has been sunflower seeds, shredded coconut, and cashews. About equal amounts of both. I’m sure roasted almonds would work as well!

Yum! This sounds fabulous. I’ve never made my own before, but I really want to now. I also need to find those sugar free chocolate chips.
Rebekah says
I’m sure you can find the chocolate chips at a health food store, I’ve even heard that sometimes you can get them at Walmart. I’m sure they would be cheaper there too. 🙂
