{ I received a copy of the book Running Is Totally For Me in exchange for a review All thoughts are my own (or Seth’s)}
We are a pretty active family, more so in the summer months but I would still say during the winter we do get in a decent amount of exercise. I have dreams of the day that my boys will run a 5k with me or of our entire family doing the DALMAC together one Labor Day weekend. So a few weeks ago when we received Running Is Totally For Me in the mail I was really excited. We were going to read it and check out the games right away. Then on the day that we were going to do that Andrew decided to make his appearance. The author has been super gracious in allowing us more time to get this review done.
Let me first say I LOVE the book! It encourages children to find their own sport or exercise that they like to do and then to have fun while doing it.
The story features a determined girl, Madi, who tries several sports in search for what truly inspires her. She calls on her friends to help her through the process, but ultimately stands firm in choosing what brings her joy.
One of the things that I most like about this book is the fact that Madi asks her friends and family for their advice. This concept is a one that is important to teach our children especially in a world that tells them to follow their heart without listening to others wisdom and advice. While in the end Madi does choose her own sport, one that she didn’t try with her friends and family she chooses one after listening to their suggestions.
I also enjoyed the games {free prinatbles!} that go along with the book. We’ll be using the Verb Actions game in our homeschool day. Seth loved it. Getting the game ready allowed Seth to work on fine motor skills while cutting out the pieces, and while playing he worked on reading, number recognition and counting. {Hey! I could even use it this game with the boys as I start to get back into shape!}
