It has been just over two months since returning to a grain free diet for myself. It is much easier this second time around. Last year Cameron, Seth and I were all grain free for four and a half months. That time we were concentrating on Seth’s belly and immune system, this time it is mine.
I have eaten grains a couple of times once purposefully and the other unpurposefully. Both times the side effect was constipation, not a good thing when you already struggle with constipation because of Hashimoto’s/Hypothyroidism.
I am now sugar free (including honey and maple syrup) as well and have been for the last seven days. I am hoping that this along with being grain free will help speed intestinal healing and hopefully help get my thyroid levels back under control. They aren’t to bad right now, my TSH was 3.97, still in the “normal” range but for women who are of childbearing age the reccomended optimum TSH level is 1.0-2.5.
I went back to see my holistic care doctor this past week and he is happy with the improvement that he is seeing, but we still definitely have a ways to go.
So, how am I feeling energy wise?
This is always a hard question to answer, because really I think I feel okay. I am tired and fatigue pretty easily, I need my naps and a 10:30PM bedtime is pushing it for me. I am loving the #onemonthoffitness challenge that we have going {I actually need to go run soon :-)} and I love the encouragement from others and being able to encourage other women to get fit and make fitness/exercise a daily thing.
What is happening with my weight?
Well sadly, I think just a side effect of the hypothyroidism, or another food sensitivity I’m back up to 124. I would like to be back at 120 to start another pregnancy, but if that doesn’t happen then that is okay.
How has my mood been?
Pretty even I think. Obviously there are still hard days, but I don’t think it is from detoxing anymore.
What I’m taking.
*Thyrosol
*Iodine Synergy
*T-100
*Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil blend
*Vitamin C
*Vitamin D
*Ultra Flora Immune Support
What might be happening in the future?
A friend and I are talking about doing the GAPS diet for a while. Neither of us would be doing the intro because we are both nursing littles and there is concern about detoxing being to hard on the babies as it passes through breatmilk, but we are looking at the full GAPS diet for a limited amount of time.
Have you done the GAPS diet? Do you have any tips?

Glad it’s going so well! Mr. T and I have gone vegetarian because I’m struggling with some GI issues – but we’ve also been trying some gluten free options – just because, and so far, we’ve both really enjoyed it and feel great!

The GF options that are out there now are so much better than they used to be. ๐
Are you eating fish and eggs? I know sometimes vegetarians eat some animal products, but I don’t know much about it at all.

I am eating eggs, which if I was going vegan I would have to give up. And, I love fish, today Mr. T and I went out for sushi and I said that apparently I was a vegetarian until sushi was involved! Lol.
